Tethers

Does the Tether ammount of Scrap refers to a full bundle of Tethers or just any quantity? Because if that yield can be obtained with just one tether, then there is an infinite resource exploit —The preceding unsigned comment was added by EstebanLB (talk • contribslogsblock log).

Pretty sure one time I scrapped a single tether and got about 2 little sections of a single scrap resource from it - so yes it does. (Don't really know how talk pages work, I don't know if i'm doing this right :/)

I can confirm - scrapping one single tether produces one scrap cone. --Manby1 (talk) 22:38, 1 March 2019 (UTC)
Scrapping a single tether actually results in slightly more than one cone (1 tether is about 1.14 cones or 1/44 full scrap) --Zxznew2896 (talk) 10:37, 3 March 2019 (UTC)
Interesting, where did you get this value from? --Manby1 (talk) 15:18, 3 March 2019 (UTC)
One bundle is 11 tethers, and 4 bundles is one scrap. I also double checked by putting 44 tethers in one at a time. --Zxznew2896 (talk) 18:24, 3 March 2019 (UTC)
Your dedication for science will be remembered. Thank you. ;) --Manby1 (talk) 21:04, 3 March 2019 (UTC)

Broken platforms

When shredding the various debris medium platforms Ive received between 21 and 25 cones. More testing is needed. --New superscriber (talk) 06:31, 5 May 2020 (UTC)

Shredable Items

Is there anything that isn't allowed to be shredded? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 209.33.225.64 (talk • contribslogsblock log).

Some are listed on the page but the starting kit (platform, printer and oxygenator) also can not be shredded. --New superscriber (talk) 06:31, 5 May 2020 (UTC)

Large Storage

Need Ceramic x3 (not x2). —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 37.235.206.211 (talk • contribslogsblock log).

Scrap Cones

Since we're starting to overhaul the scrap page a bit, I would propose that we remove the scrap cone values from the tables on this page, as the scrap cone value has no real purpose for the reader. It's useless for trading, so its only real possible use is to measure small amounts of scrap, but you might as well use decimal values of regular scrap values since all you have to do is multiply the scrap cone value by 2 to determine the decimal value. It's just clutter that distracts from the main purpose of the page. Atenfyr40605 (talk) 22:19, 14 January 2021 (UTC)

I wouldn't say it's an overhaul, I just felt that the recipe info wasn't needed. The cone values are relevant to scrap, and it is information that some might find useful. We already have the decimal value represented, but the cone value is to tell more visually how much you are getting. I don't feel it subtracts anything from the page having that information there. I'm not sure that the numbers given for scrap cones are really more useful for visualization, except for maybe very small quantities; saying that 25 cones will show up is hard to visualize (especially since I expect that few people even know that a full piece of scrap is 50 cones), but nearly all Astroneer players will instantly understand what is meant by saying "0.5 scrap" because it is intuitive to visualize half of a piece of scrap and because there is a reference frame for the monetary value of scrap thanks to the Trade Platform. I can't think of any real usage for the cones system other than that, and I haven't talked to a single person who has found any use in the scrap cone value. The cones column takes up quite a bit of space on the screen in comparison to the much more important full scrap value column (which is what everyone looks at anyways), and if anything, listing values in cones alongside full values may simply cause confusion for those not acquainted with the Trade Platform. Although those problems are minute and perhaps anecdotal, even the most insignificant of problems will counteract the lack of positives. Atenfyr40605 (talk) 04:54, 15 January 2021 (UTC)
The amount of a nugget is already there in decimals, the cone value gives the player a better understanding of how much that exactly is. It might not be useful information for most players, but it is data that fits on the Scrap page. Also, it is noted on the page that a nugget is 50 cones, so that info is available. In a sense, including the value in scrap cones is about the same as including a length value in both meters and centimeters for a data set of the lengths of furniture. While it may be possible that it is slightly easier for some people to visualize 125 centimeters versus 1.25 meters in that set, it's trivial to visualize both and convert between the two (just multiply by 100), and the increased ease of visualization of 125 centimeters above 1.25 meters is debatable in the first place. Even if the data itself fits on this page, including these two different units for what is essentially the same thing is a waste of time because the benefits are far and few between if they exist at all. It makes some sense for Wikipedia pages to have one column for meters and one for feet because it is not easy to convert between the two and there are different reference frames for those two units, but in this case, it's extremely easy to mentally convert between the two, and one of the units has no reference frame at all while the other has an extremely relevant reference frame. There is no such thing as someone who can understand a scrap cone value and not a full scrap value, so the fact that this unit conversion exists and those values are on-topic for this page isn't a good reason in of itself to include the conversion for every single item in the entire game. If there is some strange niche scenario that a reader may need to use scrap cone values for (which I certainly can't think of), they can easily multiply the full scrap value by 50 in their head with no expended effort whatsoever. There's no reason to sacrifice cleanliness and any effort of those adding scrap entries manually for nearly nobody's benefit. Atenfyr40605 (talk) 19:28, 15 January 2021 (UTC)

Updating values

So these values seems to be quite inaccurate for debris. I recon much debris has had the amount of scrap you get increased. Also all of the small scrap is now worth 0,2 nuggets each rather than the listed amounts. They become debris bundle (single) when placed in the shredder. Shall I just update the values as I try them? Shall I just remove the small debris items from the list or should they all have their values listed as 0.2? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ion288 (talk • contribslogsblock log).

Probably best to update the table as things are tested (without bundling) just to make sure they all are worth the same. Afterwords, we can probably condense the table a bit somehow. And thank you for helping out with this! SDKPhoenix 14:27, 23 February 2023 (UTC)
OK, I have tested and adjusted: Broken Dropship Dome, Broken Dropship Blue Panel, Broken Wind Turbine Blade, Broken Platform Leg, Broken Tether, Broken Research Catalog, Small Broken Solar Array Panel, Broken Dropship White Panel, Broken Solar Cell, Broken Present Crate Top (i think), and Broken Extender. I have also tested several small pieces of scrap that arent on the list, such as remnants of exploded space stations and Broken Research Chamber Scanner Head and Panel.
All of them generate the same amount of scrap pips and most notably all of them visibly becomes single cogwheel Debris Bundles when placed in any Shredder. I thus again propose we remove them from the table. (Passive aggressive tone not intended ☻).
Il move on to checking the larger debris entries but there is a lot of debris not listed. Im not sure how to name many of them an I guess images would need to be included for reference, but that would really bloat the Discoveries page. Ion288 (talk) 09:12, 26 February 2023 (UTC)
Thank you for working on this. And I am thinking perhaps we need a Debis page, since there is so many variations now. I can work on getting updated pics and new pics. SDKPhoenix 23:44, 26 February 2023 (UTC)
