Stilgar is one of the seven Galastropods in Astroneer.

Source

Stilgar is rewarded by completing the G. calidor: Recovery mission, after providing an Empty Terrarium with Soil, Copper, and a Wheezeweed seed for the G. calidor: Terrarium mission.

Appearance

Stilgar's primary color is bright desaturated orange, his secondary color is orange, and his tertiary color is brown-red. He has an orange stripe across his stomach. His head is covered with numerous orange scar-like streaks, though it is unclear if these are actual scars. His horns are solid. Two of his horns directly protrude from the back of his head, while an additional smaller horn protrudes from his right horn. Howver, his left horn is broken, which could imply that the scar-like patterns on his head may be actual scars. His mouth is indicated by a set of four droopy appendages that hang from his face. His shell is brown-red and is lined with a set of orange spikes.

Uses

Stilgar provides oxygen to the player and nearby tethers, similar to a Portable Oxygenator, for 10 minutes when fed a seed. Feeding Stilgar a Mutant Attactus Seed increases the buff to 30 minutes.

Astroneer Xenobiology Entry

Galastropoda calidor // Stilgar

"A resilient companion who lets you breathe easily on any adventure when well fed. Stilgar is a spicy addition to any backpack: THE AIR MUST FLOW!"

Notes

  • When used together, Princess and Stilgar will provide 10 to 30 minutes of immunity from all damage types, essentially making the player invincible.
  • When Stilgar is fed and providing oxygen, there are several quirks involving the tether network that may or may not be bugs:
    • The player will not draw backpack-recharging power from any existing tether grid either, which can result in losing power completely even back at base unless also carrying a personal power source. This may be a bug, or an encouragement to rely on Rogal to provide power as well.
    • Additionally, placing new tethers will always attempt to link back to the player (as the nearest source of air) rather than the nearest already-placed tether, which can make laying new tether lines difficult unless Stilgar is first placed on the ground somewhere before the end of the existing tether line.

If he is in the backpack but unfed and inactive, these issues do not occur.

Trivia

  • The name Stilgar is a reference to Frank Herbert's Dune series, supported by a further reference in his Xenobiology description. In these books, Stilgar is a major secondary character and native to the barren desert planet Arrakis, and "THE SPICE MUST FLOW!" was an often-stated summary of the central conflict. The reference is mentioned in both "a spicy addition" and "THE AIR MUST FLOW!".
