Rootkits are items in Astroneer: Glitchwalkers. They are used to unlock storm protection and blueprints in a D-Cipher on Aeoluz.
Source
Rootkits are obtained by finding Vault and completing the puzzle to open the drawer containing the rootkit. Each rootkit is found at it's corresponding vault, the Alpha Rootkit from an Alpha Vault, Delta Rootkit from a Delta Vault, and Zeta Rootkit from a Zeta Vault.
Uses
Rootkits are used in the D-Cipher to unlock level 1 storm protection for each corresponding storm, as well as a set of blueprints. They can also be searched for 8000 bytes.

A few blueprints remain locked after acquiring all Rootkits:
- Probe Scanner: Functions the same as a Vault Seeker on Aeoluz
- EXO Request Platform: No LTE items spawn on Aeoluz
