The Portable Smelting Furnace is a Crafting Module in Astroneer that can be found in wrecks, and by trading for it in the Trade Platform. It is used to smelt raw resources into Refined resources.

Uses

The Portable Smelting Furnace refines raw resources when the player turns on the furnace. Nuggets will be pulled from attached storage, such as the player's backpack until all smeltable resources are refined. If there is no free storage, the refined resource will be left on the furnace.

• Power Consumption Rate: 2 U/s

Notes

• Portable Smelting Furnaces take 15 seconds to refine one nugget with the full 2 U/s of power available. They are just as fast as full-sized Smelting Furnaces, use only 40% as much power, and use a slot two tiers smaller.
• Using Portable Smelting Furnaces on a Medium Storage Silo gives a much faster throughput than a Smelting Furnace, as each one produces as fast as the Smelting Furnace, while each being able to refine a nugget. The trade-off of faster refining is a much higher power usage, with each Portable Smelting Furnace consuming 2 U/s, compared to 5 U/s of the Smelting Furnace, making it a better alternative in the later game when players may have larger power setups.
• Players may refine a full Large Resource Canister in about 7 minutes using 15 Portable Smelting Furnaces and another empty Large Resource Canister on an Extra Large Platform C.
