Customization in Astroneer allows for players to customize their looks, allowing for a personal touch to each player's character. Customization options can be unlocked in various ways, such as getting them by earning achievements, during Limited Time Events, or purchasing from the EXO Outfitters in-game shop.

Players can access the Customization menu by going to the Esc menu and clicking the Star icon. In the menu, the player may change their suit, palette, visor, hat, mask, and emotes. These options are also shown at the start of every new game, allowing the player to customize their look before launching. Players can change their customization at any time.

Suits

Suits are the base avatar that players choose to play the game with. Each suit is different in appearance and personality, but none have an advantage over others.

Default Suits

These suits are unlocked by default when a player is new to the game. All of these suits were added to the game during early access.

Suit Description
Exo Suit The Exo Suit is a thin suit with long arms and legs. It was the very first suit added to the game.
Bubble Suit The Bubble Suit, also known as Bubbles, is a chubby suit with a big, round visor that gives it the name Bubbles.
Flight Suit The Flight Suit, also known as Pajamas, is a flight suit-styled suit that is typical of a generic astronaut.
Bio Suit The Bio Suit, like the Exo Suit, is thin, but with a longer body and more normal length arms and legs.

Reward Suits

These suits are unlocked by meeting certain requirements.

Suit Source Description
Retro Suit A gift for players that purchased Astroneer during the Early Access phase, before the release of 1.0 on February 6, 2019. The Retro Suit has a domed visor, with angular shoulder pads and a slim body.
Control Suit An exclusive suit rewarded to players who play Astroneer on PS4. The Control Suit is based on elements of the PS4 controller, with analog sticks on the shoulders and kneepads, and the visor being the touchpad.
Terran Suit This suit is acquired by unlocking the "Sylva Awakened" Achievement by activating the Gateway Engine in the core of Sylva. The Terran Suit has straps on the legs and chest, with gloves and boots, and a zipper up the middle.
Arid Suit This suit is acquired by unlocking the "Calidor Awakened" Achievement by activating the Gateway Engine in the core of Calidor. The Arid Suit has wide hips, and is a shinier material than other suits, with small boots and gloves.
Exotic Suit This suit is acquired by unlocking the "Vesania Awakened" Achievement by activating the Gateway Engine in the core of Vesania. The Exotic Suit is egg-shaped, with 4 visors on a ball-shaped head.
Tundra Suit This suit is acquired by unlocking the "Glacio Awakened" Achievement by activating the Gateway Engine in the core of Glacio. The Tundra Suit is a puffed-up suit, with a small, circular visor on a ball-shaped head.
Radiated Suit This suit is acquired by unlocking the "Atrox Awakened" Achievement by activating the Gateway Engine in the core of Atrox. The Radiated Suit is one long body with a connected head and a narrow visor, similar to suits from the CDA in Monsters, Inc.
Galactic Suit This suit is acquired by unlocking the "...And Beyond" Achievement by passing through the Gateway Portal. The Galactic Suit is similar to Radiated, with a larger visor that covers the head, similar to suits from the CDA in Monsters, Inc.
Wanderer Suit This suit is acquired by unlocking "The Wanderer's Way" Achievement by interacting with the Wanderer after activating all 7 Historical Probes. The Wanderer Suit is based on the space suit from 2001: A Space Odyssey.
Lab Suit Complete the All Together Now mission. The Lab Suit resembles a laboratory coat, with a sash and a pocket, and pants-like bottoms.
Conductor Suit Complete the Training Complete mission. The Conductor Suit resembles a train conductor, with a flat head and a pocket watch-like attachment to the coat.

Spooky This palette is acquired by playing the game after the release of Patch 1.6.49, and before November 15, 2019.
Party Time This palette is acquired by purchasing the Bubble Suit costume from Party City and redeeming the code included.
Galactic This palette is acquired by unlocking the "...And Beyond" Achievement by passing through the Gateway Portal. It is the only palette to include animated effects.
Overachiever This palette is acquired by unlocking all of the Achievements.
Calidor This palette is acquired by unlocking the "Calidor Awakened" Achievement by activating the Gateway Engine in the core of Calidor.
Desolo This palette is acquired by unlocking the "Desolo Awakened" Achievement by activating the Gateway Engine in the core of Desolo.
Vesania This palette is acquired by unlocking the "Vesania Awakened" Achievement by activating the Gateway Engine in the core of Vesania.
Novus This palette is acquired by unlocking the "Novus Awakened" Achievement by activating the Gateway Engine in the core of Novus.
Atrox This palette is acquired by unlocking the "Atrox Awakened" Achievement by activating the Gateway Engine in the core of Atrox.
Glacio This palette is acquired by unlocking the "Glacio Awakened" Achievement by activating the Gateway Engine in the core of Glacio.

Astro Recruit This palette is acquired by inputting a code given out at PAX East 2019. The code may be entered at the bottom of the Customization menu.
PAL This palette is acquired by inputting a code available with the purchase of Astroneer merchandise at PAX West 2019. The code may be entered at the bottom of the Customization menu.
Vintage Red This palette was acquired by interacting with the Apollo Lunar Module found on Desolo between July 18, 2019, and September 6, 2019. It was added to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon landing.
Wanderer Blue This palette is acquired by activating the Kepler Space Telescope on Sylva with a Probe Scanner.
Wanderer Teal This palette is acquired by activating the Pioneer I on Glacio with a Probe Scanner.
Wanderer Green This palette is acquired by activating the Sputnik Satellite on Atrox with a Probe Scanner.
Wanderer Yellow This palette is acquired by activating the New Horizons Probe on Desolo with a Probe Scanner.
Wanderer Orange This palette is acquired by activating the Hubble Space Telescope on Calidor with a Probe Scanner.
Wanderer Red This palette is acquired by activating the Mariner X on Novus with a Probe Scanner.
Wanderer Fuchsia This palette is acquired by activating the Voyager 2 on Vesania with a Probe Scanner.
Wanderer Grey This palette is acquired by unlocking "The Wanderer's Way" achievement by interacting with the Wanderer after activating all 7 Historical Probes.
Frosty Unlocked by obtaining 400 recovery points during the Project CHEER Recovery Mission, which ran from December 16, 2019 to January 17, 2020.
Salvage Chic Unlocked by obtaining 8,000 recovery points during the EXO Salvage Initiative, which ran from April 14, 2020 to June 14, 2020. Can also be unlocked by achieving the EXO Cares Initiative goal of 1,500 personal recovery points, which ran from March 31, 2021, to May 31, 2021.
Tinsel Town Unlocked by obtaining 1,500 recovery points during the Project CHEER Delivery LTE, which ran from December 7, 2020 to January 17, 2021.
Going Green Unlocked by obtaining 8,000 recovery points during the EXO Cares Initiative, which ran from March 31, 2021 to May 31, 2021.
Copper Plate Unlocked by sending 160 Compound during the EXO Automated Mass Production Protocol in 2021, which ran from June 22, 2021 to September 12, 2021.
Safety Orange Unlocked by obtaining 14,000 recovery points during the EXO Salvage Initiative in 2022, which ran from March 14, 2022 to June 14, 2022.

Emotes allow players to communicate and interact with one another. They include dances and interactions like waving and agreements. The emotes have variations between each of the suits.

Confused Varies between suits, displays confusion through hand and head movements. Retro Suit looks around with it's hands up, similar to the John Travolta meme.
Yes Varies between suits, displays positive emotion
No Varies between suits, displays negative emotions
