C.O.L.E.s (Computer Operated Logistics Engines) are railway items in Astroneer. They allow for travel along rail lines placed by the player, have two small Slots for Tier 1 items, and provides oxygen to the player. They are faster than a Rail Engine and Rail Car. Despite appearing sentient, they behave almost identically to the Rail Engine and are incapable of harming the player.

Source

C.O.L.E.s can be obtained by completing the Travelling Companion mission. Each player in a game can claim their own C.O.L.E from a Landing Pad or Logistics Depot and can reclaim the engine an unlimited number of times afterward if necessary.

Uses

  • Power Consumption Rate: 3 U/s
  • C.O.L.E.s can be used to transport the player using the included seat, along with up to 5 additional rail cars or engines behind it.

Notes

  • The front of C.O.L.E. has an animated face that changes depending on if it is empty, if it has a player sitting in it, or if it is moving with the player sitting in it.
  • Each save can only have one C.O.L.E per player.
  • C.O.L.E. is not craftable.

Trivia

  • The face of C.O.L.E. is similar to that of the Face Time visor, most often representing a smiley emoticon.
  • C.O.L.E. will whistle when a nearby player uses an emoticon or dance.
  • A train powered by a C.O.L.E. can travel ~1.5x faster than if powered by a Rail Engine and 3x faster than if powered only by Rail Cars.
